Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove smear charge without increasing random noise components by calculating the mean value of a signal from false picture elements, placed at the side of real photodetectors, for every several horizontal lines and then by subtracting it from a real picture signal. CONSTITUTION:A signal obtained by photodetection part 21, while transferred to horizontal transfer register 26 through vertical transfer register 23, is diffused in the bulk of photodetection part 21 in the groove direction and smear charge leaking into vertical transfer register 23 is superposed. Similarly, a signal from false photodetection part 21' shielded from light is also supplied to vertical transfer register 23, where the smear charge is superposed. The signal from false photodetection part 21 is A/D-converted and a mean value for several horizontal lines is output from signal adder 35 and subtracted from the signal of a real picture element to reduce random noise components and also to reduce the smear charge.
