Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten a heating time and conserve steam for heating by fixing preheat pipes to the back surface of the metal mold for molding foamed thermoplastic resin, introducing high-pressure steam into the pipes and thereby heating the metal mold indirectly. CONSTITUTION:When operations for die-opening and releasing are ended, an operation for die- closing is started, and concurrently with this operation, a cavity-side high-pressure steam valve 19 and a core-side high-pressure steam valve 20 are opened and a high-pressure steam flows into the cavity-side preheat pipe 21 and the core-side preheat pipe 22. Simultaneously with the opening of the abovementioned steam valves, a cavity-side drain valve 23 and a core-side drain valve 24 are also opened. There drain valves are closed just when the drain remaining in a lot inside both preheat pipes 21 and 22 is discharged from the inside of the pipes. The preheat pipes 21 and 23 are made to work in parallel by both-surface heating. At almost the same time when the subsequent filling operation is ended and heating operation is started, a cavity-side metal die 2 and a core-side metal die 4 is heated up to the temperature of about 100 deg.C by the preheat pipes 21 and 22. On the other hand, simultaneously with completion of heating and both-surface heating, the cavity- side high-pressure valve 19 and the core-side high-pressure valve 20 are also closed and thus indirect heating is also completed.
