Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent heterogeneous glass from flowing out of a glass melting furnace by providing the furnace with a control means of temporarily increasing the mixing ratio of starting material with smaller heat of fusion in accordance with a rapid increase in the outflow of glass to control a change in the internal temp. of the furnace. CONSTITUTION:A glass melting furnace is provided with batch hopper 9 for feeding prepared glass starting material (batch), cullet hopper 10 for feeding cullet with smaller heat of fusion such as recovered scrap glass and controller 9 for controlling the feeds of hoppers 9, 10 in accordance with a change in the outflow of glass from the furnace. Controller 8 is then provided with a means of temporarily increasing the mixing ratio of cullet whose heat of fusion is smaller than that of batch when the outflow of glass is rapidly increased. Thus, even if the amount of starting materials charged is rapidly increased, the quantity of heat of fusion required is slightly changed as a whole, resulting in no change in the internal temp. balance of the furnace.
