Abstract

PURPOSE: To close an iron notch at a low cost by charging inexpensive ordinary amorphous refractories into the iron notch after tapping of a blast furnace, then charging a required amount of high-quality amorphous refractories into the iron notch.
CONSTITUTION: In the 1st stage, water clay 7 of inexpensive ordinary amorphous refractories is charged into the iron notch of a blast furnace by using a mud gun 5, then mud 6 of costly high-quality amorphous refractories is charged therein. As a result, the water clay 7 is pushed to the coke packed layer of the hearth part to provide a retainer for the inner side of the furnace and this enables the sufficient packing pressure of the mud 6 to be assured. Namely, the amount of using the mud 6 is reduced to about 1/2W1/4 that in the conventional technique by replacing part of the costly mud 6 having hitherto been used with ordinary amorphous refractories. Here, 1 in the figure denotes the shell of the furnace bottom, 2 the base plate and 3 the refractories in the furnace, respectively.
