Abstract
PURPOSE:To remove machining chips by forming dielectric fluid guide grooves in the working electrode of an electric discharge machining apparatus and supplying dielectric fluid to said grooves under pressure. CONSTITUTION:A workpiece 1 is submerged in dielectric fluid, and a working electrode 2 is first axially fed and then fed in the direction of an arrow A to form a rectangular slot in the workpiece 1. Dielectric fluid guide grooves 4 and 5 have been axially formed in both side surfaces 2b and 2c of the working electrode 2. A dielectric fluid jetting nozzle 6 is provided facing to one 5 of the dielectric fluid guide grooves, and the dielectric fluid jetted from said nozzle 6 reach, through the dielectric fluid guide groove 5, the bottom of the worked hole 8 and is discharged with a rush from the dielectric fluid guide groove 4 on the other side. By said action, erosion chips produced at the electric discharge machining gap between the working electrode 2 and the front end surface 2a is forcibly removed. The shape corresponding to the dielectric fluid guide grooves formed on the workpiece 1 in the early stage of machining is eliminated as the electrode is longitudinally fed.
