Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the strength of solidified products with ease at a low cost, by using, as a blending or addition liquid, water which was used for the fire-extinguishing and cooling of cinders generated by the incineration of garbages, in a process of adding a water-hardenable solidifier to EP ashes discharge from a municipal garbage incineration plant.
CONSTITUTION: A predetermined amount each of EP ashes discharged from a municipal garbage incineration plant and a water-hardenable solidifier is charged through an opening 1a in a mixer 1. An appropriate amount of water which was used for the fire-extinguishing and cooling of cinders generated by the incineration of garbages, is added as a blending liquid to the mixture. After the mixture is sufficiently blended, the mixture is optionally shaped by a device 2, aged for a desired time period, and then discharged away. The amount of heavy metals exceeding from the shaped solidified product is lower than the standard value which allows discharging. Due to the use of the said water, the ability to confine heavy metals in the solidified product is improved, as compared with a case using drinking water. Consequently, this process is applicable to an existing apparatus for solidifying EP ashes with cement without necessity of changing the installation. Besides, it is not necessary to dispose the contaminated ash water.
