Abstract

PURPOSE:To highly accurately and readily measure the azimuth angle of a magnetic head by a method wherein an optical reference surface is set with respect to the cylinder reference surface, a light beam is divided into two, which are reflected by the optical reference surface and the side surface of the magnetic head respectively, and the interference fringes are measured. CONSTITUTION:The reference surface 11 of the cylinder 10 of a VTR is attached to an azimuth measuring jig 12 by using screws 13, and the relative positioning between the jig 12 and the cylinder reference surface 11 is performed. The light beam from a light source 17 is made parallel rays by a lens 18 and divided into two by a half mirror 19, which are reflected by a reflecting mirror 20 and the side surface of a magnetic head 14 respectively and made incident on a lens 21 through the half mirror 19 again. By measuring the relative inclination between the cylinder reference surface 11 and the magnetic head 14 according to the interference fringes of both the rays, the azimuth of the magnetic head 14 with respect to the cylinder 10 is measured. Thereby, the azimuth angle is measured highly accurately and readily.
