Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a deformation of an internal pipe when a connecting head shaped like a circular truncated cone is formed at the end of a duplex pipe member by buckling by cutting the end of the internal pipe of the duplex pipe member shorter than an external pipe by a proper length.
CONSTITUTION: For shaping a connecting head, a lean metal pipe 2 of a small diameter, a stainless steel pipe, is first inserted inside a thick metal pipe 1 of a large diameter, a steel pipe, and they are welded by clading to make up a duplex pipe 3. The duplex pipe 3 is drilled to shorten only the lean metal pipe 2 of a small diameter so that its end 2' stands behind the end face 1' of the pipe 1 by a proper length. Using a split chuck 7 and a punch 8, the resulting work is buckled to form a connecting head at end in the shape of a circular truncated cone whose front peripheral wall is to be a seat face 5. The pipe 2 is held within the pipe 1 without a deformation caused by a pressure which is applied on the pipe 2 when its connecting head is formed.
