Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the efficiency of heat recovery by the exhaust gas economizer of an internal combustion engine comprising a supercharger and the economizer and make the economizer compact, by conducting only combustion gas of high temperature to the exhaust gas economizer.
CONSTITUTION: In an exhaust device in which exhaust gas from a cylinder 7 is discharged into the atmosphere through a supercharger 5, an exhaust gas economizer 2 and a chimney 1, a scavenged gas escape pipe 13 is provided as a bypass which branches off from an exhaust passage at the upstream side of the supercharger 5 and detours the supercharger and the economizer 2 and joins a chimney 1. A change-over valve 12 for separating combustion gas from scavenged gas is installed in the branching section of the scavenged gas escape pipe 13. In combustion, the change-over valve 12 is switched so that the combustion gas in the cylinder 7 is conducted to the chimney 1 through the supercharger 5 and the economizer 2. In scavenging, the valve 12 is switched to conduct the scavenged gas to the chimney 1 through the scavenging passage 13. This results in efficiently heating water in heat transfer tubes 3, 4 by the economizer 2.
