Abstract

PURPOSE:To give nonelectrodic nature and longer life to a gas laser tube, by mounting outside electrodes outside the outer container and secondary election radioactive materials inside the outer container, and exciting high frequency discharges. CONSTITUTION:An outer container consisting of a vacuum outer container 2 which acts as a plasma fine tube containing gaseous laser media 1 and brewster valves 2', 2'' is prepared. Outside the valves 2', 2'' cylindrical electrodes 3, 3' are mounted. A high frequency current is fed to the electrodes 3, 3' from a high frequency oscillator 4 to create high frequency excitations. At the time, the secondary electron radioactive materials 11, 11' are mounted cylindrically inside the vacuum outer container corresponding to the electrodes 3, 3'. Because of the secondary electron radioactive properties of the materials 11, 11', the materials 11, 11' act as electrodes inside the gas laser tube to make uniform the discharges in the laser tube and reduce the voltage decrease in the tube. The necessiated high frequency current is lowered than usual and the power source 4 can be simplified. Further because no gas pressure lowering is caused by absorption of gas to electrodes, a longer life on the part of the tube can be realized.
