Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a small lightweight electrode base-plate with a sufficient strength which provides a good current-collecting efficiency and can prevent the active material from falling off, by coating the surface of the entire skeleton of a porous sintered body, which is prepared by sintering metal fibers, with either lead or a lead alloy. CONSTITUTION:Metal fibers 2 obtained by cutting a round metal bar with the help of a lathe are integrated into a body having a given dimension, before the integrated body is sintered, a porous sintered body having a communicated hole 1 being obtained. After that, a lead layer of 20mum thickness is formed over the surface of the entire skeleton of the porous sintered body through electrodeposition by the use of a lead silico-fluoride bath, an electrode member with a lead coating layer 3 being prepared. The communicated hole 1 of thus obtained electrode member is packed with, for example, either lead powder or lead-oxide powder, before the electrode member undergoes appropriate compression to make the active material to be held, thus a pasted electrode being formed.
