Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous data from being recorded on a magnetic tape by deciding pseudo IBG (inter-block gap) of greater than prescribed length an error which can not be retried when it is detected in a block during write operation. CONSTITUTION:If pseudo IBG is detected in a block, IBG counter circuit 9 starts count operation. Then, IBG-length deciding circuit 10 monitors the count value of counter circuit 9 and, when the count value reaches a prescribed value equivalent to the length which a back-space command judges normal IBG, sends a retry disable signal. Then, signal EQC (equipment check) is sent out of FF circuit 13, so that the software interrupts the following processing. Thus, erroneous data can be prevented from being recorded on a magnetic tape.
