PURPOSE:To simplify the construction of the drive mechanism of head and to increase the efficiency of recording and reproduction when the head is used for recording and reproducing head for VTRs, by locating the auxiliary magnetic pole at the side surface of the main magnetic pole. CONSTITUTION:The main magnetic pole 1 is constituted that the surface of the glass board 11 is coated with the permalloy film 12, the ferrite block 13 is located in front of it, and the exciting winding 14 is made outside. The auxiliary magnetic pole 2 is located at both sides of the main magnetic pole 1. The exciting winding 22 is wound on the ferrite core 21 of the magnetic pole 2. The inside surface of the core 21 is closely adapted to both sides of the glass board 11 and the block 13, the end of the pole 1 and the auxiliary pole 2 is coincident, and the tape runs while the magnetic substance layer 3a is in contact with the end surface of the magnetic poles 1 and 2. Thus, when the recording current flows to the windings 14 and 21, the magnetic circuit is formed broadwise the tape 3, causing the tape 3 to be magnetized to vertical direction. The efficiency of recording and reproduction can be increased more by locating the magnetic substance 4 at the opposite side with the tape 3a.
