Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain a printing quality at a constant ink density by a method wherein a solid ink is mounted on a fixed stand, a second ink sump for liquid ink is arranged at a position corresponding to that of a first ink sump for liquid ink, thereby an ink is applied on a printing paper directly. CONSTITUTION:When a print head 400 approaches a right end, a first ink sum 403 makes contact with the tip ends of a second ink sump 406 and a solid ink 408. A solvent is transferred from the second ink sump 406 to the first ink sump 403, while the solvent contained in the first ink sump 403 dissolves the tip end of the solid ink 408, producing a liquid ink and is stored at the first ink sump 403. When the apparatus is not in use, the first ink sump 403 makes contact with the second ink sump 406, leaving the solid ink 408 in an uncontacted condition, and a solvent is refilled from the seond ink sump 406 by the amount which is decreased by evaporation from the first ink sump 403. Because the amount of the ink contained in the first ink sump 403 does not change, there happens no concentration of the ink density, hence a clogging is prevented and a condition where good printing is readied in the apparatus is maintained at all times.
