Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve watertightness easily by preventing characteristics from deteriorating at a connection part by sealing inevitable pores, formed in silicon nitride, with an impregnated organic or inorganic substance, such as thermoplastic or thermosetting resin and metal oxide. CONSTITUTION:A temporary formed body of metallic silicon powder is converted into silicon nitride of high hardness by being held in a high-temperature nitrogenous atmosphere, but inevitable pores are generated normally at porosity 10-20%. The pores, after impregnated with various monomers, are polymerized or impregnated with plastics of low viscosity, such as paraffine and further steeped in a solution of inorganic salts, etc., such as AlCl3, and then a heat treatment is performed to produce stable metal oxide such as Al2O3. Consequently, reliability and high hardness are provided and watertightness can be improved easily.
