Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a rod-shaped substrate for optical fiber, which is improved in mechanical strength of the fiber and sphericity of the core after being shaped into a fiber, said improvement being derived by providing between the exterior layer and the coated portion of the light-guide body an intermediate exterior ayer having intermediate values with respect to thermal expansion coefficient and viscosity between those of the exterior layer and the coated portion.
