Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the manufacture of the steel material possessing a specified material characteristic, by exactly presuming the grain size depending on the rolling strain rate, rolling temperatures, etc., for each rolling pass, and by giving arbitrary grain size in response to the request, at carrying out a multipass hot rolling work for carbon steels or low alloy steels.
CONSTITUTION: At subjecting carbon steels or low alloy steels to a multipass hot rolling work, a controlled rolling work is carried out, without necessity of the heat treatment following to the rolling work, making the austenite grain very fine by only the rolling work; hereby, the steel material with excellent strength and toughness is manufactured. For this purpose, the rolling strain rate in the i-th pass is controlled so as to make the number of grain size (Ni) of recrystallized austenite (γ) after the i-th rolling pass, to be a specified value designated by the equation (I). In the equation (I), Ni-1 is for the number of grain size of recrystallized austenite after the i-1th rolling pass, Ti is for the rolling temperature (°C) in the i-th rolling pass, and εi is for the rolling strain rate occurring in the i-th rolling pass.
