Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent effectively the generation of cracks in an ingot case during casting, by heating the ingot case and maintaining the whole ingot case at high temp. by covering it with a heat insulating material, then by removing the heat insulating material thereby removing the internal stress remaining in the ingot case.
CONSTITUTION: An ingot case is set with its outer periphery enveloped with heat insulating material such s glass wool etc. When the ingot case is heated by the sensible heat of the molten steel and the temp. of the outer wall is raised to a temp. not lower than the stress-removing temp. and not higher than A1 transformation temp., the ingot case is cooled by removing the heat insulating material. Hence, the stress remained and accumulated in the ingot case is removed thereby reducing the generation of cracks in the case, consequently extending the service life of the ingot case.
