Abstract

PURPOSE: To maintain the intial filter performance of a tubular porous filter body and reduce radiation exposure does by forming a cake layer in said filter body.
CONSTITUTION: In treatment for waste water, etc. contg. radioactive finerly divided particles, the cake layer forming liquid which is stored in a circulating water tank 32 and in which cake layer forming materials, for example, filter aids, etc. of 20W 30μm average sizes are suspended, is passed and circulated into a tubular sintered metal filter body 5 of 10μm average pore size. The supply of this liquid is accomplished at high velocities of flow of about 7W14m/s, and as a result, an about 100W 103μm thick cake layer 40 is uniformly formed and stuck on the inside of said body 5. This cake layer 40 does not desorb despite the stopping of the water supply and circulating into the body 5, but if a highly pressurized gas of about ≥4kg/cm2 is supplied to backwash the same, it readily desorbs. The desored cake layer forming materials are slight and will not produce a large amount of secondary waste.
