Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled agent, useful hepatic diseases, e.g. acute and chronic hepatitises, and containing a specific fraction obtained from blood plasma or serum of a mammal as an active constituent.
CONSTITUTION: A stimulating agent containing a fraction having a molecular weight of 1,000 or less and an Rf value of 0.25W0.55 measured by the thin layer chromatography (developing solvent n-butanol:acetic acid:water=12:3:5V/V) obtained from a blood plasma or serum of a mammal as an active constituent. The physical properties of the purified blood serum factor are as follows; Cololess and soluble in water, relatively slightly soluble in methanol and other organic solvents. The aqueous solution thereof will not show an absorption maximum at wavelengths of 260nm and 280nm usually. The agent has a stimulating action on the synthesis of hepatic DNA and therefore useful as a drug for accelerating the regeneration or new growth of parenchymatous cells on reduction in the number of function of the cells in the lever due to hepatic diseases, e.g. acute or chronic hepatitis, or drug poisoning. The agent is administered orally or parenterally.
