Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to keep a contrast of the information signal constant regardless of the difference in the characteristics of the semiconductor laser, by controlling the gain of an information signal amplifier based on the size of the reference burst signal that is piled on the laser beam during the information signal blanking period.
CONSTITUTION: The light receiver 23 receives the laser beam prior to each scan on a photoreceptor and delivers the signal corresponding to the highest level in the blanking period of the information signal. The output of the receiver 23 is supplied to the gate circuit 42 to extract only the reference burst signal. Then the peak value of the reference burst signal is held by the peak holding circuit 43 and then compared with the output of the reference signal generator 44. This difference controls the DC power source 40, and then the injection current of the semiconductor laser 30 is controlled. On the other hand, the DC component is eliminated out of the reference burst signal to extract the signal proportional to the waveheight value. This signal is compared with the output of the reference signal generator 52 to control the gain of the information signal amplifier 53.
