Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable accurate detection even of slight leakage at any place in a sewer pipe joint by opening a vacuum pipe for inspection in a vacant place and thereby reducing pressure in the place. CONSTITUTION:A hollow cylindrical body is moved in the direction of an arrow F under the condition that mantles 1a and 1b are deflated, and when a connecting pipe 2 is positioned at the joint part 4a of sewer pipes 4, compressed air is supplied from a compressed-air tube 5 to inflate the mantles 1a and 1b and thereby the mantles are closely fitted on to the inside wall of the sewer pipe 4. Thereafter, the pressure in a circular vacant place 10 formed by the outside surface of the connecting pipe 2, the inside wall of the sewer pipes 4 and the mantles 1a and 1b is reduced through the intermediary of the vacuum pipe 7 for inspection. When there is any place of leakage in the joint part 4a, the air and underground water outside the sewer pipe 4 are sucked into the vacant place 10, whereby the degree of vacuum therein is lowered. According to this fall of degree of vacuum, the water leakage at the joint part 4a and the size of the place of leakage are detected.
