Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable control over the quantity of light without using a high-speed photodetector by exercising output control over a semiconductor laser on arrival of a recording signal of greater than a constant width. CONSTITUTION:The current that corresponds to the count value of reverisble counter 17 drives semiconductor laser 1 and when its quantity of emitted light is greater or less than the upper limit or lower limit of a set range, the signal of upper- limit or lower-limit comparing circuit 14 or 16 is applied to counter 17. On arrival of a recording signal of a high level longer than time (t), the count value of counter 17 decreases or increases by the signal of pulse-width detecting circuit 19 and the output of current limiting circuit 21 also varies accordingly, so that the quantity of emitted light of laser 1 will decrease or increase. If the quantity of emitted light does not reach a prescribed value according to fluctuations of the ambient temperature, a carry or borrow signal is sent from counter 17 to safety circuit 22, so that while counter 17 is reset, an external alarm will be given.
