Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable use of a device of comparatively small size for measurement of a discharge of particles contained in discharge gas at time of high-speed revolution and high-load operation by supplying only part of an engine discharge gas to a measurement device and discharging the other part. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust gas from a engine 21 is split into two streams at an optional flow ratio through a splitting value 24. In the meantime, an exhaust gas stream is conducted to a diluted mixing part composed of a filter 1, an orifice 3 and a dilution tunnel 4 and then is absorbed by a blower 6 to be mixed with a large quantity of clean air. The other exhaust gas stream is caused to flow out through a duct 26. Inside a tunnel 4 of the mixing part, a sampling probe 11 and a sampling pipe 28 are arranged. A mixed gas is sucked from the probe 1 by the action of a sampling pump 16 and particles are collected by a filter 14 for weight measurement. A mixed gas introduced through a pipe 28 is supplied to a concentration analyzer 29 and carbon dioxide concentration is measured. Further carbon dioxide concentration in an exhaust gas supplied through a pipe 27 is measured. Thus the split ratio of the afore-mentioned exhaust gas is sought.
