Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a flame-retardant polyamide useful as a film, etc. having improved mechanical properties, flow properties for molding, etc., by polymerizing a polyamide-forming monomer under heating in the presence of equimolecular amounts of melamine and cyanuric acid, and a specific amount of water.
CONSTITUTION: In a period before the formation of high-molecular-weight polyamide by a polyamide-forming monomer, e.g., ε-caprolactam, etc., equimolecular amounts of melamine and cyanuric acid are added to the monomer in such a way that preferably 2W2.5wt% based melamine cyanurate the content in the final compsn. is present. 5wt% or more water based on polyamide-forming monomer is present, and, when the total amount of melamine and cyanuric acid is x, and the minimum amount of water required is y, an amount of water satisfying the equation is added to the polymerization system.
