Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain titled resin having excellent flexibility, adhesion, etc., prepared by reacting an alcoholic hydroxyl group-containing polyhydric phenol with a polyisocyanate, and reacting the remaining phenol groups with an epihalohydrin or a polyepoxide.
CONSTITUTION: A urethane-modified epoxy resin is produced by reacting (C) an alcoholic hydroxyl group-containing polyhydric phenol prepared by adding to (A) a polyhydric phenol, (B) a lower alkylene oxide in an amount of up to 1 eq. per phenolic hydroxyl group of (A), with (D) a polyisocyanate having isocyanato groups equivalent to alcoholic hydroxyl groups of (C), and reacting the remaining penolic hydroxyl groups with (E) an epihalohydrin or (F) a polyepoxide. Exemplary of (A) is hydroquinone. Exemplary of (B) is ethylene oxide and exemplary of (D) is 2,4-toluylene diisocyanate.
