Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled composition, easily added and homogeneously dispersed into a rubber, a plastic, etc., and prevented from change in coupling function with time, which is prepared by allowing a silane coupling agent to be absorbed into a silica hydrosol-modified calcium carbonate.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of sodium silicate is added to an aqueous suspension of calcium carbonate, and hydrochloric acid is added to the resulting mixture with agitation until pH of the mixture reaches 8.5. The slurry material produced is dehydrated, dried and crushed, to obtain a silica hydrosolmodified calcium carbonate. After (i) said modified calcium carbonate powder is preliminarily treated with a small amount of (ii) a silane coupling agent (e.g.) γ-aminopropyl triethoxy silane), the balance of the component (ii) gradually added and absorbed, to obtain a powder composition consisting of 90W50wt% of the component (i) and 10W 50wt% component (ii). Said powder composition is compounded with a rubber or plastic, together with an inorganic material, and serves as reinforcement between the inorganic material and the rubber or the plastic.
