Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the vacuum circuit of a condensation polymerization system from being clogged and to prevent the glycol distilled from escaping, by specifying the temperature of the cooling water at the outlet of a condenser for the distillate, in the condensation polymerization of a glycol ester of a discarboxylic acid.
CONSTITUTION: In the preparation of a polyester by the batchwise condensation polymerization of a glycol ester of a discarboxylic acid, the peak temperature of the cooling water at the outlet of a condenser for the glycol distilled, is adjusted to be 40W100°C. When the peak temperature of the cooling water at the outlet of said condenser <40°C, it causes the clogging of the vacuum circuit because a glycol ester or a low polymer thereof is inefficiently caught by the glycol distilled. Said temperature over 100°C is undesirable because the distilled glycol itself is not condensable and escapes out of the system through the vacuum circuit.
