Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Bismaleimides of formula I (R, R' are H, halogen, 1W4C alkyl; n, n' are integer of 1W4).
EXAMPLE: 2-Methyl-2,4-bis(4'-N-maleimidephenyl)pentane.
USE: An insulating material, heat-resistant adhesive, vulcanizing aid: they have high heat resistance and high compatibility to resins and show retarded curing properties. Further, they melt at low temperatures.
PREPARATION: A dehydrating agent such as a carboxylic anhydride is made to act on a bismaleamideacid of formula II in an organic solvent such as acetone or methyl ethyl ketone in the presence of a catalyst such as sodium acetate or nickel acetate and of a tertiary amine to form the compound of formula I. The compound of formula II is obtained by addition of maleic anhydride to a diamine of formula III.
