Abstract
PURPOSE: To form an embossed pattern on the side surface of the chip box by a very simple method wherein a foamed thermoplastic resin sheet is passed through a heating area to be softened, later a desired pattern is pressed thereon, and then V-shaped grooves for folding the sheet are formed.
CONSTITUTION: The foamed thermoplastic resin sheet 1 formed of foamed polystyrene is passed through the heating area 2 kept at a temperature (e.g. 180°C) higher than the softening point of the foamed sheet 1. On the back surface of the foamed sheet 1 swollen and softened in the above process is formed the desired pattern by using a pressing die 3, while on the front surface thereof being formed the V-shaped groove 9, and the sheet is cut into a number of belt-shaped sheets (side-wall boards) 13. In this device, a die 6 with a pattern shaped thereon is fitted on the lower board 5 of the pressing die 3 and further an edge die 7 for forming the V-shaped groove and a cutting edge 8 are provided on the upper board 4 so as for the sheet to be pressed between the upper and lower boards. The side-wall board 13 thus obtained is folded along the V-shaped groove 9, fitted with a bottom and thus turned to be the chip box having the embossed pattern on the side surface thereof.
