Abstract

PURPOSE: A flexibilizing curing agent, having improved impact resistance, being a liquid at ordinary temperature, and consisting of an acid anhydride obtained by mixing an aliphatic dibasic acid with a specific polyester, and condensing the mixture through dehydration.
CONSTITUTION: (A) an aliphatic dibasic acid, e.g. malonic acid, is mixed with (B) a carboxyl-terminated polyester obtained from an aliphatic polyhydric alcohol, e.g. polyethylene glycol having an average molecular weight ≥200, and a polyfunctional carboxylic acid or an anhydride thereof, e.g. phthalic anhydride, at a weight ratio of preferably 95:5W40:60. The resultant mixture is then treated with acetic anhydride to give a carboxylic acid anhydride consisting of the carboxylic acid present in the raw material. The anhydride thus obtained can be used alone but preferably as a mixture with an aromatic or alicyclic acid anhydride at a weight ratio of 97:3W 5:95.
