Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a rare earth element-Co permanent magnet with superior magnetic characteristics by magnetizing an alloy based on Sm2Co17 crystals and having columnar structure.
CONSTITUTION: An Sm-Co-Cu-Fe-Zr five-component alloy consisting of 21W28wt% Sm, Co in an amount enough to make Sm2Co17 crystals as the principal component and the balance Cu, Fe and Zr is cast to obtain an ingot whose microstructure forms columnar structure. This ingot is subjected to solid soln. treatment at 1,140W 1,180°C and magnetically hardened by aging at 800°C. It is then pulverized, kneaded with an org. binder, and press molded in a magnetic field, and the resin in the molded body is cured by heating to manufacture a precipitation hardening rate earth element-Co permanent magnet with superior magnetic characteristics.
