Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain lubricating oil at an appropriate temperature and reduce the engine sounds spread to the outside by a method wherein the oil pan is formed in a double-wall structure and a low-melting metal is filled in the space between the two walls. CONSTITUTION:An inner oil pan 4 in the shape of a flat dish is fixed to the lower part of a crankcase 3 coupled to the lower part of a cylinder 2 in the internal- combustion engine 1, and an outer oil pan 5 is fixed at the outside of the inner oil pan 4 with a spacing therebetween. The interior of the inner pan 4 is used as an oil reservoir for containing the lubricating oil 6, and the closed space between the two pans 4, 5 is filled with the low-melting metal 7. The metal 7 may be a metal which melts at a temperature near the optimum temperature for the lubricating oil, e.g. the special alloy genelite (commercial name) A or B. Accordingly, the lubricating oil can be maintained at the appropriate temperature, deterioration due to a rise in temperature can be prevented and the engine sounds can be prevented from spreading to the outside.
