Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively reduce the engine noise level in a relatively wide frequency range, by making a sound insulating wall of an inner and an outer sheets sandwiching an intermediate layer and by placing the sound insulating wall around at least part of the internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION:The sound insulating wall A is made by coupling a sound insulating cover 2 wrapping a cylinder block 1, an oil pan 3 separated from the cylinder block, and a rocker cover with one another. The sound insulating wall A is clamped together with a manifold 6 on a cylinder head 5. A hole 8 for fitting a spark plug 7 is opened through the wall A, which is clamped on the cylinder head 5 around the hole 8. The sound insulating wall A is composed of the inner sheet 22, the outer sheet 23 and the intermediate layer 21 between them to attain the purpose. The intermediate layer 21 may be an air layer or a packed sound absorber 24 such as a perforated glass wool sheet, asbestus, etc.
