Abstract

PURPOSE: To hydroformylate an olefin industrially and advantageously, in a specific catalyst solution, by taking out part of the catalyst solution in the reaction zone, crystallizing the catalyst, and recycling the crystallized triarylphosphine to the above-mentioned reaction zone.
CONSTITUTION: An olefin is hydroformylated in a catalyst solution containing a complex catalyst of a noble metal selected from Group VIII triarylphosphine, an excess of a triarylphosphine and a reaction solvent. The resultant aldehyde is separated and obtained by evaporation out of the reaction zone, and simultaneously the catalyst solution is partially taken out of the reaction zone, preferably in the triarylphosphine concentration of 1W60wt%, as a waste catalyst solution, which is crystallized, preferably at -78°W80°C. The triarylphosphine thus crystallized is advantageously and selectively separated and recovered, without using a substance poisoning the catalyst or corroding the reactor. The resultant triarylphosphine is then preferably purified, and recycled to the reaction zone mentioned above.
