Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve durability by a method wherein printing wires are coated with a superhard substance by melt pressure deposition. CONSTITUTION:Plural printing wires 1 are fixed by a fixer member 2, the surfaces of the fixed wires 1 are finished, and a semimolten powder of a superhard substance (e.g., carbide) is flame sprayed in the direction of arrow A onto the tip end face 1a of the wires 1, e.g. by explosion flame spraying, to coat the face 1a with the powder by melt pressure deposition. Before and during melt pressure deposition, with a temperature difference provided, finish of the tip end periphery of the wires 1 after the melt pressure deposition is facilitated due to a difference in coefficient of thermal expansion. Then, the melt pressure deposition coating portion 1b is lapped, and the fixer member 2 is removed, e.g. by an acid, to make the wires 1 ready to be installed in a printing head.
