Abstract
PURPOSE:To make possible automatic work by entering light from one end of the connecting fiber, entering the emitted light into the fiber to be connected, approaching both while measuring the intensity of said exit light and starting fusion-bonding operation when the intensity of the exit light has become more than the preset permissible loss value. CONSTITUTION:First, the permissible loss value L2 after the fusion bonding is beforehand set and light is entered from one end of the connecting fiber 14. The light emitted therefrom is then entered to the fiber 24 to be connected and the both fibers 14, 24 are approached while the intensity P0 of the exit light thereof is being measured. When the exit light intensity P0 has become more than the value corresponding to the permissible loss value L2 after the fusion welding, the preset fusion- connecting operation is started. By this method, the timing for starting the fusion- connecting operation may be automatically determined and all except setting of optical fibers done automatically.
