Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture magnetic powder having improved dispersibility and dispersion stability in organic binders, by immersing magnetic powder in an aqueous solution of a zinc compound and ammonium chloride, and washing with water.
CONSTITUTION: 100 parts by weight of magnetic powder is treated with an aqueous solution containing ≥0.5 part, pref. 1W5 parts of a zinc compound such as ZnCl2, ZnO, etc., and a proper amount of ammonium chloride, and washed with water. The zinc compound is adsorbed to the surface of the magnetic particles. The weight ratio of the ammonium chloride to the zinc compound is pref. ≥0.5. Since zinc compounds are easily soluble to water and compatible with organic solvents, the zinc compound adsorbed to the surface of the magnetic powder improves the affinity between the magnetic powder and the organic solvent, thereby improving the dispersibility and the dispersion stability of the magnetic powder in the organic binder.
