Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily and quickly measure the quantity of chlorine in an aqueous solution, by using an inert gas as a carrier to introduce chlorine gas produced in the aqueous solution by adding sulfuric acid, into a chlorine detection tube.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing chlorine is introduced through an inlet port 2 into a vaporizer 1 containing sulfuric acid 1A. A gas such as nitrogen gas, which is inert to chlorine, is introduced into the vaporizer through a conduit 8, a valve 9, another conduit 10 and a gas diffusion tube 3. Chlorine gas produced as a result of the reaction of the sulfuric acid with the chlorine in the aqueous solution is accompanied by the inert gas. The chlorine gas and the inert gas are introduced into a chlorine detecting tube 4 through an adapter 6. The chlorine gas is caused to react with a filled agent in the detecting tube 4 to color the agent. The colored length of the filled agent is measured to determine the chlorine content of the aqueous solution.
