Abstract

PURPOSE: To elongate the endurance life of a photoconductive layer by coating the layer with a solution based on a partial hydrolyzate of specified silane coupling agents and hardening the solution to form a transparent protective layer.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture consisting of one or more kinds of silane coupling agents as principal components represented by formula I and 50wt% or less of other silane coupling agent is partially hydrolyzed with trifluoroacetic acid or the like and water. In formula I, R is 1W4C alkyl, each of R1 and R2 is 1W4C alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aryl or phenyl or R1 and R2 form morpholine, pyrrolidine, piperazine, piperidine or hexamethyleneimine according to formula II, and m=2W3. The resulting coating solution is then coated onto a photoconductive layer on a conductive substrate and dried to form an about 0.1W20μ thick transparent protective layer. Thus, the endurance life of the photoconductive layer is elongated, and erosion thereof due to acetone, kerosine, etc. is prevented, thereby giving a stable-image copy free from a ground stain.
