Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve lamp efficiency by providing an infrared reflector which reflects the infrared rays emitted from a filament and returns it to the filament, in the lamp tube.
CONSTITUTION: The infrared reflector 9 with a semi-spherical reflecting surface is installed facing its semi-spherical aperture to the central part of the fluorescent lamp tube 3 so that the central point of the reflector can be placed on the filament 10. The infrared rays emitted from the filament 7 are reflected by the infrared reflector 9 and return to the filament 7. In the conventional method, since the heat losses emitted from a cathode return to the cathode, the voltage required for compensating the heat losses is lowered and the cathode breakdown voltage also is lowered for the losses. As a result, this method enables the power consumption at electrodes to be decreased and lamp efficiency to be improved.
