Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the life of lamp by reducing local loss of filament through continuous variation of coil pitch in such a manner that the temperature distribution less than 4 mm from the end of the filament can be held within a prescribed range.
CONSTITUTION: The coil pitch of a filament 3 supported with a conductor 4 in a bulb is determined to meet the following requirement. The relationship between the temperature at a distance x from the end of the filament and the maximum temperature Tmax to meet the two equations ensuring a continuous temperature distribution. With such an arrangement, the local loss of the filament 3 can be reduced without lower efficiency thereby extending the life thereof.
