Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a rapid start fluorescent lamp of an power saving type which provides good starting characteristics, by adjusting the resistance of the conductive film of the lamp to the given value in response to its distance from the end of the gas lamp containing Kr, Ar and Ne.
CONSTITUTION: A bulb is charged with a mixture gas made up of Ar, Ne, and 30W70vol% or Kr, before the bulb is sealed. The resistance of the conductive film of the bulb is appropriately adjusted so that the resistance of each part of the conductive film varies according to its distance from the end of the bulb. The entire resistance of the conductive film within the range l1, which excludes the ranges not more than 30cm apart from the ends of the bulb, should be below 50kΩ; the entire resistance within the range l3, which is 20W30cm apart from the end, should be below 50kΩ; the entire resistance within the range l2, which is 10W20cm apart from the end, whould be below 200kΩ. Each end of the conductive film should be not less than 10mm apart from each end of the bulb, and besides, each end of the film should be apart from a filament position toward the direction of the discharge by not more than 10mm. Through the means mentioned above, a rapid start fluorescent lamp of an power saving type providing satisfactory starting characteristics can be obtained.
