Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the brittleness of an electrical contact material without losing the advantages by adding a boride to the material manufactured by adding Ni to pure W followed by activated sintering.
CONSTITUTION: 5W25wt% Ni and 0.5W10.0wt% WB are mixed into W and activated-sintered to manufacture an electrical contact material. Since Ni is contained, this material becomes brittle and undergoes severe consumption due to arc. On the other hand, the oxidation resistance of W is enhanced, and the sintering temp. is lowered. In order to eliminate the above-mentioned disadvantages without losing such advantages, 0.5W10.0wt% WB is mixed into mixed raw material and sintered. Thus, the disadvantageous brittleness is improved, and the resulting electrical contact material is prevented from cracking owing to a calking impact or a soldering strain when used as an electrical contact. The amt. of W contained is reduced to make the material cheaper, and superior oxidation resistance and mechanical properties are provided.
