PURPOSE: To prevent the leakage of compressed air from a runner chamber at the time of operation to push down the water surface by providing a circular inclined passage on the shaft sealing apparatus and minimizing a difference between pressures forward and backward of the shaft sealing apparatus.
CONSTITUTION: A part of pressure water supplied to point "A" between packing 8 and shaft sleeve 9 through pressure water supply passage 12, and runs downward along the shaft sleeve 9. After flowing down to inlet point "B" on the inner circumferential surface 13a of shaftsealing disk 13, the said part of pressure water runs out towards outside in a radial direction along circular inclined flow passage 15, reaching outlet point "C". Then it flows into the back pressure chamber 13 of runner 1. During the flow from the inlet point "B" to outlet point "C" of inclined flow passage 15, the pressure increases under viscosity centrifugal action and is maintained at higher level than that of water or air in the runner back pressure chamber 13. Therefore, the leakage of compressed air blown into the runner chamber to the outside through the inclined flow passage 15 can be prevented.
