Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a facilitated production of a bright, plate type zinc oxide fluorescent substance well deposited on a support substrate by applying heat treatment, in a reducing atmosphere, of plate type zinc oxide obtained by thermal decomposition of basic zinc sulfate plate crystal.
CONSTITUTION: To aq. zinc sulfate solution, ammonia water is added in amount of 20W80% of equivalent to neutralization. The mixture is then agitated at 80W 100°C for 1hr or more to provide basic zinc sulfate plate crystal. This crystal is thermally decomposed at 800W1000°C, preferably in air to provide plate type zinc oxide. This zinc oxide is then subject to heat treatment under reducing atmosphere.
USE: Fluorescent display tube, etc.
