Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily obtain a cheap aluminous desiccating agent by adding transition alumina to aluminum hydroxide sludge followed by molding, hydration and calcination.
CONSTITUTION: Transition alumina obtd. by heating aluminum trihydrate to about 500W1000°C is mixed into aluminum hydroxide sludge recovered from Al (alloy) surface treating waste water, etc. The mixt. is kneaded and molded into a desired shape. The moldings are then hydrated in hot water or steam and calcined at about 350W800°C to give an aluminous desiccating agent of high activity. By this method hydrated moldings of high granule strength are obtd. using water in sludge, so the sludge can be solidified easily and cheaply.
