PURPOSE:To perform the drying of sludge without emitting offensive odors by the procedure in which waste gas from a sludge drying chamber is cooled for dehumidification and then heated again and circulated through drying chamber with the interposition of two heat exchangers using flon gas as a medium for performing both the cooling and heating operations. CONSTITUTION:Air of a low humidity at several tens deg.C is circulated in the drying chamber 6 enclosed by the cooler 8 and the heater 9 by operating the heat pump 10 and the blower 14, then organic sludge from the feeder A is sent on the feed conveyer 7 for drying, and lastly the dried sludge is taken out of the carry-out mechanism B. The cooler 8 and the heater 9 for dehumidification are connected to each other by the heat pump 10 for providing the same heating cycle for them and also the heat medium used is a flon gas having good performance coefficient.
