Abstract

PURPOSE: To start a motor with a small-capacity generator by providing a starter having a main winding and a compensating winding around the divided portions of a closed magnetic circuit with a bypass magnetic path.
CONSTITUTION: Main windings n1 and n2 and a compensating winding n1', whose direction is reversed with respect to the main windings and ampere-turns are the same, are wound around the divided magnetic paths of a closed magnetic path 1 having a bypass magnetic path 2 in the middle thereof. A winding ns for preventing the leakage of magnetic fluxes is wound around the bypass magnetic path 2. The voltage drop of the generator is decreased by giving a reduced voltage to the motor M for a short period from the main windings n1 and n2 immediately before the direct starting, and the magnetic circuit of the generator is saturated. Then, the motor M is directly started with the main windings n1 and n2 being non-inductive windings. Since the voltage drop in the generator is decreased even though it is started directly, starting can be accomplished by a small-capacity generator without fail.
