Abstract

PURPOSE: To obviate remaining of coloring state at the decoloring despite repeated driving in a short period by using iridium oxide (IrO) or material composed primarily of the same as a dielectric layer.
CONSTITUTION: The solid electrochromic element is constituted by depositing an electrode 2 of In2O3 or the like on a transparent substrate 1, then a dielectric layer 4 of IrO and an electrode 5 of In2O3. Here, the mixture of IrO and NiO or the like of relatively good response speed other than IrO alone is equally well as the material for the dielectric layer. This constitution yields the solid electrochromic element of distinct coloring and superior memory characteristic and durability.
